Default knock or ping noise in motor

I have slight knock or ping noise at idle. It seems to go away at a certain rpm when i reav the throttle and then i hear it again at idle. I thought it was cause I needed my valves adjusted. I had them adjusted and I still hear it. Does anyone know what it could be? I checked my oil and it just got replaced when the valves were adjusted.

I had the same problem with mine. The ping was there at certain idle speeds, especially when the bike was in left in normal idle. It ended up being a loose screw on my heat shield up near the engine

i also had the loose screws, if it falls out your gonna hear a lot of tingy. seems like everyone here has lost that bolt. you should just take it off and put some lock tite on them bolts.

I suggest that you get a mechanic's stethscope (only $5 from Harbor Freight) and pin-point the source of the noise. It could be as simple as loose botls on the exhaust pipe covers or as serious as something on the crank.

Default knock or ping noise in motor

I thought a knock or pinging in the motor ment a piston was wanting to get out.....LOL. But seriously, my friend had to adjust his heat shield as well on his vf750. I didn't have that problem on my bf750. However, my brothers prairie 360 had the same type of noise as well. It was the mesh guard in front of the radiator. If you can't find out the problem, you might want to check that mesh guard.

I have checked every inch of the bike and couldnt find anything loose. I pulled off the belt cover and couldnt find anything there. I thought it might be bad gas because I was running 87 octane in it. I put 2 fillups of 93 octane and it is still there. Im not getting full speed out of it either. It seems sluggish and will only about 45 to 50 mph. It used to do 60+ easy.

After reading your last post (if all done right and true), I'm starting to get little worried if what you are describing is the sound of the rod bearings going south... I would not ride anymore until you find out exactly what the problem is in order to prevent further damage. If you are still in Kawi warranty, take it to your dealer. If not, hmmm... Drain engine oil and look carefully for any sign of metallic particles. Hope that's not the case. Good luck.

My user manual recommeds 91 octane (Prarie360). That's what I usually run and never noticed any knocking noise in the motor.
