Default 03 300 bayou, did my first oil change and i need to know if i did it right

ok i did this yesterday and retried again... yesterday i looked at the sight glass and i must of put to much in b.c the oil level in the sight glass never went down..so today i drained some of the oil down to the top line of the sight glass maybe just a hair under the line but not by much... fired it up let it run and when its on level the oil in the glass goes down to the middle or alil bit under the middle of the glass. and i noticed depending on how the bike sits ( just alil bit on a hill) the oil looked like it goes away from the glass all most...this normal? i dont want to much oil b.c it will lock up nor do i want not enough b.c well u know what happens...any help would be thank full
thanks
Jeremy

You should have put about 1.7 L (or 1.6 qt) of oil. As long as you can see the the oil level around the middle of the sight glass with the engine turned OFF, it will be fine. It seems you put little too much, but OK. Yes, it is normal for oil level in the sight glass to go down a bit when you run the engine. That's because the oil pump is now sucking it up and pushing the oil everywhere into the engine.
