i recently fliped my quad in the water and had to rebuild my engine i put new piston rings and all new gaskets of course. after rebuilding motor it idles perfect but when you push the throttle it starts back firing spitting and sputtering and will not rev up. i also cleaned out the carb bowls, floats, diapham and main needle with carb cleaner. i called the local dealer and they said to check the timing and i did the timing is right on the money. can anybody can help?

Did you get your front and rear cams mixed up? Did you turn the motor over the right way? If you used the clutch side you have to turn it over backwards to time the cams.
How about valve clearance should be set loose like .006" intake and .010" exhaust.

Just checken cause my friend rebuilt one and hade me come over and beside having the cam switch he hade turn the motor over the wrong way.
For some reason you have to turn the clutch side backwards from the way the motor runs if your turning over by the clutch.

Hello from way up north in the Yukon territory ,Canada. I have a 04 Suzuki Twinpeaks 700, this past summer I had a problem with a plugged main jet. After tearing the bike down and cleaning the carbs my bike did the same thing as yours is doing.....I tryed everything ....turns out you have to totally reassemble the quad with the airbox and filter. If you don't it runs way to lean, it works on a predetermined volume of air.I am hoping that you are trying to test the bike with just the carbs on to see if it runs good before you totally reassemble it completely...as I tryed to do.Try it on a similar v-twin quad...just pull the air filter and it will run like yours is now. Hope this helps. Duke.

thanks for the info i honestly havent thought of the air cleaner i did build it all the way but my filter might be restricting the air flow from dirt or mud so im gonna take another look at the air box thanks again Duke and wish me luck.

make sure that the rubber lap that goes around the intake to the air box isn't in the way. I made that mistake the other day. You can just pop off the cover for the radiator cap to check it out.
