Brute question
#1
I also posted this on another site before I found this one so if you read it there then sorry for the duplicate. I'm a newbie here and wonder if you guys could answer a question for me. I'm soon to purchase a new atv and my choices are down to the brute force and the king quad. I recently sold my sportsman since I had quit riding it and as soon as I did I knew Id made a mistake. So now im back in the market. My question deals with the 4 wheel drive setup. If im understanding what I read correctly, then it takes a few feet for the front end to recieve power after putting it in 4 wheel drive. Say for instance your in mud in 2 wheel drive and trying to make it through and get stuck. You put it in 4 wheel drive and what happens? The backs spin until gear alignment is made and the fronts begin to pull? or will they not pull at all until the fronts can move a few feet? From somewhere I read that if you get completely stuck in 2 wheel drive (can't move backwards or forwards)then you basically have to be pulled or winched out because 4 wheel drive won't engage without movement. I really enjoy trying to make it through certain places we ride in 2wd to prove I can but I don't want to get stuck and then not be able to get myself back out if I can't. If this is true has anyone found a trick to coax the fronts into receiving power? I was out looking today at both the king quad and the brute force and am trying to make my decision. I really appreciate any help that you guys could give

You are 100% correct, on any Prairie/BF you must be moving forward for the 4x4 to engage, most engage within a few feet.
I've on my 4th Kawie VTwin & the 4x4 doesn't bug me one-bit but there isn't much mud here either. I just put it into 4x4 anytime the trail begins to look like I may need it, if it doesn't, then I disengage just as easy as engaging, just slow down to 7mph and it will go into 4x2. If you hit the 4x4/4x2 button by accident it won't go into either until the speed is at least 7mph or less. The variable Frt dif-loc is super too in 4x4.
You can't coax the 4x4 system do to the design of the front end, you either Love it or Hate it. If you feel you hate it, then buy something else.
VTwin power is the Best, I for one will never go back to a Thumper again.

Mine will engage or disengage under 15 mph. Also, if you get in a pinch, and you need 4wd, and you are already stuck, you can engage 4wd. You just need to apply throttle ever so lightly. After the rear wheels turn a revolution or so, the frontend will engage. Im sure that this cant be good for the front end, so only do it when you get suprised. Otherwise, drop down to 14 mph or less, and engage the 4wd. Mines an 06, so maybe for 07 they lowered the speed to 7 mph for engagement. hope this helps!!

i have two 06 650i quads both will go into 4wheel without moving just have to spin the back tires a little real easy no clunks or harsh noises if you are easy on throttle also i have heard some people say that theirs will kick out of 4wheel at a certain speed i have had both quads over 50 mph both were still in 4wheel

i have had mine stuck in the mud in 2 wheel drive and i found if you put it in 4 wheel drive and try and rock it backwords giveing it some throttle it will angauge and then you can continue going forword.
i dont know anything about the king quad other what iv read in the mags but i will say that i love my praire and my buddy just picked up a brand new brute 750 and hes very happy with his so far also.
they say the king is a good quad but i beleave the kawi is better.
plus here in Canada kawi has just come out with a 2 year full warenty and a winch on there quads.
at least thats the deal he gave my buddy.
i dont know what the deal is with suzuki.

I have a kvf 360 4x4 which I have gotten stuck many times in 2 wheel drive. All I have had to do is just hit the switch give it a little gas to get to rear wheels moving like everyone else is saying and the front wheels engageded effortlessly. I just traded it in for a 750 brute and will be pleased if it responds in the same way.
