Bayou 300 4x4 flame puff sound.

Bayou 300 4x4 flame puff sound.
On my 95 300 4x4 bayou the last couple of time I shut the engine off I hear what sounds like the puff of a flame igniting or going out. I also noticed I have a big hole in the side of my muffler could those be related?
