Default kfx-450r troubles

new guy , just went from a 97 polaris sportsman 400 that i never had anyy trouble with ( cause i did not get to ride it much ) to kfx-450r.

any body seeing any problems with their kfx-450r quads?

mine went into the shop today with less than 8 hours , running oil out of the connection on the transmission for the reverse cable.

also the shaft the shift lever is attached to slides in out of the transmission about 3/16 of an inch ? is this a normal amount of play , the lshift lever slides on the shaft as well , but the shaft moves in and out of the transmission housing.

I've heard of one other one leaking oil out of the seal around the shifter shaft....other than that no real problems to speak of yet.

im way more of a street bike guy , but if i bought a new street bike and i could slide the shifter shaft back and forth , that sucker would go straight back, its definitly leaking somewhere in that area , the whole bottom of the motor was wet after sitting overnight, about a 6" diameter circle on the floor where it drained throught the plastic skid plate .

i am really pleased witht he bike overall, just hoping i didnt get an early production m,odel full of " training Time" at assembly.

dealer has not called me yet so i gotta sit here and suffer.

i do know that if they have to crack open the cases to fix it , i will have a new motor or a free extended warranty, i dont like being a hard *** about it , but i paid full ticket , plus all the extra "fees " and waited 8 mos. for this beast.

Welcome to the fourms ctrhenry

I have had no problems as of yet...

Mine also slides in/out of the transmission housing about that much, I also checked my Z & it moves about the same so it might be normal, let us know what you find out from the dealer...

Default kfx-450r troubles

I was at my local dealer the other day, and a guy was pissed about his brand new KFX450 too. His was in rough shape from the way he made it sound. He said first it started sputtering, then it would backfire really loud and stall. He said they looked at it, found a faulty ignition module and replaced it. A week later the same thing happened and again he brought it back, this time the wire going to the module had a hot spot and was shorting out. So they replaced that. Then the next ride the oil leaked out, but he didn't know it for sometime. He said he started to hear a scraping noise and pulled over. He was about to pull away when he realized there was oil all over the bottom of the case. He was about 10 miles from home, and he said he could not push it, or get a truck to where it was, so he had to ride it with almost zero oil in it.

Needless to say, he is not fighting with Kawasaki to get a new engine. They are trying to say it was user error, so he called a lawyer and they caved in and agreed to replace the engine. But he's been without his brand new quad for almost two months total with all the repairs and down-time. The dealer happens to sell both Suzuki and Kawasaki, and the only reason he picked the KFX450 over the LTR450 was because of the reverse. He said he wished that he bought a Raptor 700, and is now thinking of doing just that.

I felt bad for the guy, but this is the exact reason I never buy anything the first year it is out.
