Default KLF400 Bayou Cam chain

I find that my cam chain has way too much slack. The tensioner is all the way out and the guide is still not tight against the intake (back) side of the chain. Is the chain stretched? Is it the wrong chain? Can I tell without taking the bottom half of the engine apart and taking the chain out. How much of a pain is it to take the clutches out to get to the chain on the bottom? The fishe shows the chain as being 82 RH 2010-1181. What does that number mean? 82 links? I recently bought this atv used and the guy said that it needed chain guides. They look fine.

Is the chain stretched? Has anyone else seen so much slack due to chain stretch? What else can be the problem?

I just got my new chain today. This one proves that my old one was very stretched. will put the new one on this weekend. Why would a chain stretch almost 1/2"?

I would be intrested to hear if new chain cured your problem and if you fitted new chain guides . Doing simlar repair trying to keep parts to minimum . They cost an arm and leg in uk

yes, the chain solved the problem. It was about 1/2" too long!
