Default Prairie 300...nice machine?

My brother picked-up a 2001 Prairie 300 4x2 auto yesterday. This thing is almost showroom condition, the skid plates aren't even scuffed. The guy said he just didn't really use it and just wanted to get rid of it to somebody who would. Got it for $1,650 including all paperwork, rear storage box, clymer manual, original owners manual, etc. I think this is a great deal. What do you guys think of the Prairie? Any trouble areas to keep an eye out for? I've heard something about the belt service light coming on and putting the machine into limp-mode but I don't know if this year is affected by this. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Awesome atv. Sounds like he got a great deal. They are great. We have sold a lot of 300 prairies. Mainly 4x4's. Hardly sell the 2x4's. Might as well pay the extra money and get a 4x4. No probs with either one. You might notice you'll want more power. Kind of turds if you ask me but its only a 300. Of course im used to 750's. Never seen a belt issue with a 300/400 prairie. I've replaced the belts cause people dont use the low and high gear properly. That will smoke a belt every time pullin a heavy load in high gear.

Tell your bro to make sure RECALLs are taken care of on his new ride - such as steering knuckles. Also, see if it is making clicking noise when turning sharp slow speeds - if so, check the front wheel bearing for moving out of its place. If it's got a electric carb heater, check to make sure the brn wire is not too close to any metal part of the bike. I can go on and on... but overall it's a great/solid bike for what it is.

Got a 2002 Prairie 300. Like Hayashi said make sure the knuckle recall has been done. Bought mine in the same condition as you can see in the pics. So far no complaints...
