Bayou 300 autoclutch slipping...
#1
A friend of mine has a '97 Bayou 300. It has an autoclutch that slips when he first fires it up. After awhile, when it warms up, the quad pulls fine. It only gives him problems when he starts it cold.
He changed the oil and adjusted the autoclutch per the manual. Still no difference. Does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone experienced this? Any help would be appreciated. We would like to fix it ourselves so he doesn't have to leave it at the dealer for a month.
Thanks...

I suspect a non-problem.
The viscosity of cold oil is different form warm oil; as the oil warms to normal viscosity, the "wet" (totally slathered in oil) clutches, both the centrifugal primary and the disk secondary clutch, perform to design standards.
If the clutch shifts and engages properly upon warmup, I wouldn't worry about the situation; you'll never notice it in the summertime.

I agree with TreeFarmer. I had a 300 Bayou also.
One thing about adjusting the clutch. It is kind of an art. I had mine in for first service and they checked the adjustment by doing the Adjustment procedure. It was with good intent I'm sure but they made it sticky. So I went through the same procedure and it worked well but was sticky when cold and got better when it warmed up. I did it again and it found the Sweet Spot.
I'm not saying do it again. If it is really cold were you are just let her get warm.
