i got the pen lock made by Highlifter.com on my Brute, works great...

as for as cons of the 08 FI brute, well I still don't like the suspension, its better than previous years, but not to my liking for fast trail riding, so mine is now equipped with a set of Elka Sports/Racing series shocks....

the FI works great on the machine and as far as top end, who cares, it will beat an Outty or any other 800 off the line every time, the torque is amazing down low....

I did add a HMF Penland ECO series exhaust to mine with Dynojet Power Commander, works well and is QUIET:

thanks, i suck at the wheelies though, those are the first time i went out and tried, needed some sound clips to show the HMF, so figured i would try some wheelies too, need to get out again, i changed the primary spring to a EPI pink, so will give me a high engagement off of idle, so will be easier to get up, just need to figure out the balance point...

and the vids are at 5300 foot elevation, which of course robs some of the power from the brute

It rides a little firm but I like mine so far, two stalls and one small loom fire in the first day... Sucks fuel and the diff lock and rear brake are weak.

One thing I'm not sure of at this point is the gas tank protection plastic.

I've seen mud and rocks get between the tank and sides. Our rocks in Arizona tend to be sharp. When I get home, I wash and rinse it out well, but I'm not sure if there are any rocks getting stranded that I can't see / feel.

Anyone have any issues with the protection, and if so, what did you do to solve it?

Thanks.

Bill

You can cut holes in the gas tank protector........Use a small hole saw and put a few holes in a couple spots and you wont have an issue..........You can also use a hardening foam in between the gas tank and the protector, then you wouldnt get anything in there

my diff lock works fine, i dont need it most of the time, 7 out of 10 times both front wheels are spining on mine anyway. i agrea the breaks are weak but i tend to be going way to fast in the first place.

I have a pen locker from highlifter for my 2005 bf750i and it works great. The handling is the only issue that jumps out for me. Aftermarked shocks, which is next, will solve most of that. The newer bf750s apparently handle better than the 2005 models b/c of the geometry changes from what I have been told. As far as the motor, you would be getting the best every made IMO. There is a ton of aftermarket hop-ups for the vtwins that really will allow it to unlease their torque and power. My bf750 in stock form topped out at 69mph by my garmin gps. After getting the ignition module and jet kit added, it increased to 73mph, but the big difference was it got to that speed much much faster. Now, if you hammer the throttle on a hard surface, it will almost stand straight up and if you pull back, you are sitting on you butt...lol.
