Default 650i --- two questions

1) I don't think this is fuel injected. Is it as cold blooded and awkward warming up as the smaller 360? If I were to upgrade from my 360 I would not need all the power of the 750 and, other than a little more power, fuel injection seems to be the only diference.

2) Stability. does anyone have any experience with spacers --- pros and cons. The lighter weight alloy tires, other than looking nice and weighing less, seem to only widen the stance slightly. If one were willing to put up with the weight and looks would the existing rims be just as good with spacers

3) Ok I know I said only two questions but I am on a roll. I have a friend that has an older brute (either first or second year) and he got new aftermarket shocks as he claimed the stock shocks "did not do the job". I have heard the stock shocks were upgraded. Is this so?

And yes I am all over new tires like a duck onto a june bug --- I have already been looking at better six ply wider tires.

Don't know when I might be able to finance the upgrade in ATv's but if I did I am thinking on what I would want and what upgrades I would need asap.

Sorry for the long post but would apreciate all response.

Default 650i --- two questions

I have a new 07 Brute, 650I. I'm not sure about the tire questions but the shocks have been upgraded, rides like a dream. she is cold blooded but I never have had any trouble getting it started in cold weather. I love my Brute, I think it's a good choice!

Default 650i --- two questions

Not sure how it is warming up compared to the 360, but my 650i doesn't like to start in the cold. I ran it on Sunday and it took almost 10 tries to get it to stay running (but it was about 20 degrees for 2 weeks straight).

Stock, the quad didn't feel terribly unstable. Just at higher speeds could you notice it, and also on off-camber sections. With aftermarket wheels (I run ITPs), it feels even more stable than my dad's SRA Brute.

I don't think they changed the shocks. The stock shocks are fine unless you ride very fast all the time or seriously beat the crap out of the quad.

Despite its bad qualities (no EFI for example), the 650 is an awesome quad.

Default 650i --- two questions

I have the 07 650i and found that it is coldblooded as well. When I switched to Amsoil synthetic I found that the engine starts 100% better than it did with mineral oil. I ride on most Sundays all winter and its been cold here in NH and at times fire the engine up at @ 5 to 10 degrees F. Fires right up without any complaint with full choke. Then I just let it sit and warm up, backing off the choke every couple minutes. With mineral oil, I had to stay right with the machine and refire it often before it would warm up.

I have no personal experiance with spacers, but I ride with a few that use them. Dont seem to be a problem. The only ones I would be leary of are the stud type that fit over the OEM lugs. They might be okay for light weight sport quads, but I woulnt trust them on heavier 4x4's. My wheels are the HL XL2 chromes, the are wider than OEM and do add to stability alot.

I hear alot about roll but so far mine seams fine. I removed the anti-sway and have the spring preload bumped up. Im running 27" MST's. There 6 ply with a beefy sidewall. Im guessing that when I hear of excessive roll related to a BF IRS, Im betting that its the OEM tires causing most of it. The 2 ply OEM Dunlops are horrible at best.

I ride my BF hard and have concidered Elko's or Works Shocks, but atm Im waiting on HL springs to come off backorder. Im not bottoming now, but since installing the overfenders, Im rubbing them in the rear a little, so im looking for a little more clearence from them.

Default 650i --- two questions

Thanks for the replies.

I have the 360 and like it for dificult trails and hauling logs and such --- it has lots of low end grunt. however I also do some trail riding with others on better trails and the 360 is indeed slow. I looked at the 6501 and see it is about the same physical size and weight (so should be as nimble on tight trails) but with more ground clearance, a smoother ride (IRS) and a lot more power.

My concerns are more with stability etc. than speed (I am sure the 650 would have more than enough) or looks. So better and wider tires for sure. Maybe just start there and see how it does --- then make a decision on other things (spacers, new wheels, suspension, etc.) after I see how comfortable I am with it. For very slow rock crawling I would think it would rerquire very careful control of the throttle.

When I can aford to make the change I do not know but am pretty set on the choice when I can coral the the funds.
