Yes, they are good for tight woods and trail use. Probably top 2 or 3 model sport quad for that specific purpose. You can definately ride an mx track with them as well. While a big bore kit can bring the power level up to run with the 450's, they are heavier and narrower stock so you may have to work a bit harder than a 450 rider in some sections. For trail riding at sane speeds the Kawie is perfectly capable of keeping up even without a BB kit.

I just got a KFX 400 (04) and I love it. I came off of 250 Mojave, and the power is incredible. Don't get me wrong, the Mojaves are beasts for what they are, but there's no contest. The 400's scoot.
I've been through trails somewhat on so far, but nothing up north, waiting for this crap to melt! It takes turns awesome, and slides with ease when wanted with just a touch of the throttle. If you are around snow, I wouldn't recomend getting one and going ***** to the walls when you hop on for the first. (unless your a good rider, and depending on what your coming off of). These bad boys kick the *** out easily, and slide terribly in the snow.
I've never been around the 450's yet besides my buddy's 450 honda, but haven't raced. Not sure how they compare, I would say it should be close if you modded it nicely. I think it really depends on who's driving as well. It's only 50cc's difference, and both 4-strokes. My 250 would take out 350 rap's outta the hole pretty good with no mod's, as well as 300EX's.
Hopefully ya get it.
