250 mojave or 300ex
#3
After owning a 250X and now two Mojaves, I would say that the Mojave is a better machine. It handles a little better and has better shocks. The engine design is 90's weres the 300ex is a 80's design. I agree that the despite what you read the Mojave DOES start on the first kick if jetted correctly. I have a stock and heavily modded one to prove it.

Pretty smart to post both here and in the Honda forum. Some of the Honda guys brought up the starting issue. My Mojave starts first through thrid kick and is way easy to kick over, even in sneakers. As far as suspension goes the Mojave's front shocks are stiffer than the roly poly 300EX. I havn't experienced a harsh bottom out yet.
When you get a chance sit on both machines to see what feels better to you. If you look at the specs the two quads are very similar in dimensions. Ergonomically the Mojave is a smaller fit in the cockpit but if you are a smaller person it is great. If you are tall the 300EX will fit you better. I think the Mojave handles better than the Honda just because the steering feels more accurate. It does seem to turn a lot sharper than the Honda.
As far as maintenance goes, both quads have 4 valves to adjust. The liquid cooling on the Mojave is no big deal, just make sure the reservior is at the full mark and your done. Every two years you will need to drain the coolent but I'd rather do that then mess with the battery and starter. Chain adjustment is the same on both machines. Air filter maintenance is harder to do on the Mojave.
Your best bet is to ride both machines and see which one you like best. For the money the Mojave is the better quad. It just doesn't get the credit it deserves because fewer people have them. This has more to do with Honda being a bigger company and selling more machines than anyone else. Honda makes good machines but so does Kawasaki. Either way you go you won't be buying a lame machine. For my style the Mojave suits me better.
