klf 400 small probs
got me a lovely klf400 (bayou?) frame number is lf400b 60**** any how it seems to be running a bit rich as when i take the plug out its black and sooty. is there a mixture screw on the carb? also it seems to be misfiring at higher revs and doesnt feel like a limiter cos its not a smooth, constant misfire any one any ideas?

here's what *I* would do..
1: go stick the plug in a air cleaner, barring that, replace the plug
2: go for a ride, and see if it is sill missing and such
3: pull new/clean plug and see if it looks the same
4: lean it out a little, see if that clears the problem.
It is PROBABLY the AF misture, it COULD be the winter formulation of the gas, and at last resort, it could be a little oil slipping past the rings, which could be detected with a compression test
when is the last time you changed your oil? No, really

erm dunno when the oil was changed last i only got it 4 days ago! there seems to be a load of wires attached to the bowl of the carb dunno what they do either! dunno when the plug was changed.... dunno much realy!!! plan is to tear down the carb this week and give it a service. it ran well today for about 3 hours in very wet boggy/swampy terrain so it cant be too far off. (did start to smoke when it got hot though) how/where is the af mixture screw/adjuster? ooh yeah and what is the correct plug?
