Bayou 220
#1
I purchased a 94 Bayou 220. Guy told me it is very hard to first start. But once it was warmed up it was no problem. I got it home. Put a new battery in it, New Plug and cleaned the carb. The carb was real bad. Anyway it turns over good. has good compression, and i am getting spark, but it will not crank. I have even tryed to spray either in it and it will not start. Any Ideas?
Thanks and Merry Christmas

it takes 3 things for an engine to start. spark, compression, and propper fuel/air mix. see if you are getting fuel into the cylinder. did you clean the pilot jet out atall? if its a khein carb then you should locate the pilot jet and clean that. if that gets really gunky it will effect starting ability.

THat is the one jet i didnt take out. Do you know the proper setting for it? That way after i take it out i can put it back. Also on the Head of the moter therre is a lever that is going into the valves. I can move it up and down but not sure what it does. Thank you for you responce. The air cleaner box is missing so i tried putting some cardboard over the carb to not allow so much air in it, But when i do that it starts shooting gas out of that hole.

o..well that sounds like part of the problem right there. i would deffinatly get an air box! your getting WAY too much air threw the carb so your fuel/air mix is gonna be very low..too low to get the motor to fire. replace the air box first then i would repoast ,or pm me,if you still have a starting problem. good luck
