**How do I tighten my chain on my KFX 400??***
You have to loosen the 4 large bolts on the back of the swing-arm
once all 4 are loose you adjust the chain by turning the single bolt directly on the rear of the swing-arm -
once the chain is tight you simply re-torque the 4 large bolts on the top of the swing-arm -
Make sure you re-tighten the bolts in a cross-corner fashion, and torque them each a little at a time. Do not just crank down to full torque one at a time or you may **** the axle. It also should be noted that those bolts are VERY tight, and needs to be just as tight when you are done. I cannot recall off-hand but I think they are 110-pounds or something like that... but either way they are tight. You won't be moving them with a 3/8" ratchet....lol....... I use a 1/2" ratchet with an extension on the handle to get the proper leverage with one hand while keeping the socket on flat with the other.
FWIW 1" of play on your chain is not excessive depending on your riding style. Generally 1/2"-to-1" is OK......much more than 1" and you are too loose....... but if you are jumping a lot, or running soft suspension 1" of play will get used up during suspension travel......
