Default shifting to 4x4

Just wondering if there is any truth to not being able to shift into 4x4 while the bike is moving? I was told by the dealer that you are not to shift into 4x4 on the Kawasaki bruteforce 650 2008 without the bike being completely stopped
Too much of a chicken to try it and screw something up

That would be true...The bike has to be at a complete stop before switching into or out of 4 wheel drive...Then it engages or disengages as you begin moving again.

yes, always come to a complete stop, put it nuetral, press the button to 4wheele drive, put it in gear and go. only use locker in 4low. it's all quite quickly done.

I have accidently hit my 4x4 switch going down a blacktop at 50 mph, it didnt do anything the 4x4 flashed on the dash untill I slowed down to a near stop then it engaged and locked in..... I wouldnt recommend trying it but I believe it will not attempt to engage untill you come to a near stop.

Spoke with my buddy that owns a Kawasaki/ducati/bmw dealership and he stated that you can put the bike into 4wd while it is moving. The bike will not engage until it is under 40kmh and it is done electronicaly. Think i will try it tonight and see what happens...worst case scenario is i get some warranty work done. Thank you for the responses...

Kawasakis 4wd is a great thing! Yes you can switch it into 4wd but it has to be like 10mph or less and DONT be on the gas! If you gradually switch into it and tap the gas slightly let off it will engage and you will be good to go! We have 3 Kawasaki 4wds without any trouble!

Its really not a big deal that the Kawi can not shift to 4wd while on the fly. I can shift to 4wd on the fly but I usaully know I need 4wd when I,m "stuck" anyways, which is another word for stopped. LOL

Now a ATV that can shift from low range to high range or visa versa while on the fly would be GREAT!

I own both an 06 BF 650 i and and 05 Prairie and both bikes I shift to 4 wheel drive on the fly without any problems. As my dealer described to me, it CAN only be safely done as long as you are not on the gas OR you are not spinning the tires.
