Default KFX 700 questions prior to purchase

I'm looking to get my wife a KFX 700 Vtwin quad and was wondering if there were any years/models I should look out for. I'm basically just looking for a good year and hopefully either the red marble or blue marble paint scheme. Also, every year bike I've looked at seemed exactly the same as if these things have never changed anything over the years other than plastic. Are they all the same mechanically or do they actually make some improvements from year to year? Hey I really appreciate any help so thanks for any replies.

As far as I know they've been the same since they were introduced. The only change I know of was the name change from the "V-Force" to the KFX700...... Other than that I think they are all the same.

There was just a few little changes throughout the years.

The biggest change that I know of was they put a better rocker oiling system from (I think) 05 on up. Even that was no big deal. I have an 04 and never had one problem with it.

I have heard about some rocker arms failing but these are modded up quads with cams and springs ect.

There really is no bad year on these things.

As far as getting one for your wife. This is a big heavy quad. Easy to ride, but they are big and heavy. I would not recomend one for agressive riding with a smaller person. Just putting around, fine.

Yeah that is a good point...... I did not catch the part about his wife. That is a big heavy machine, and unless you are a good 250 pounds you are not going to have much influence with body english on there...... Heck even at 250 you are not going to have that much influence over a 600 pound monster.

Right now my wife is riding a Polaris Trail Boss which I think is almost 50 pounds heavier and about the same size as far as height and width. She does fine on woods trails but really struggles in the dunes which is why I want her to have some more power. She's only like 140 pounds but isn't an aggressive rider plus she's actually ridden an 04 KFX700 at Glamis and did fine. I'm glad to hear the different years are essentially the same, that makes a purchase a lot easier. Is there anything I should look for as far as common wear points like are these things hard on ball joints or anything because of their size? Do the valves tend to tighten up or are they hard to maintain?

On the maintenance front my step-father's KFX700 has been pretty reliable. He did blow out the RH ball-joint, he's also had some odd electrical problems but some were of his own doing. He too was a Polaris rider for years and switched to the KFX like you are doing with your wife. He was into them so much in fact that he moved his brake lever to the ot7

But other than that, his has been pretty solid, and he rides pretty hard. I don't believe he's ever done any valve adjustments. He did an exhaust and jetting and a clutch kit but those were not repairs..........

As far as your Wife, if she is used to a Polaris she will probably like the kfx too. Of course she would probably like something smaller and lighter even better. I've seen quite a few women riders go from large Utes to smaller sports and they really take their riding to a new level.

Especially in the dunes where light weight is KING......power is nice too but when it comes to sand you cannot beat something light and flickable.....

Hi I tossed around 700 or 400 for some time I settled on a 05 kfx 400 great bike very easy to ride and light. If you do Dunes KFX 700 not a good choice I think .The 400 or 450 are great choices and under 400 pounds great dune or trail. I dont think the kawazuki 450 has reverse .05 and newer for the 400 good luck.

Sounds about right to me. I have an 04 in mint condition and I would not take less than 3K for it.

One thing I would look at hard would be the swing arm. The bearings tend to go out in them when used in a lot of water.

No real other problems wlth them that are common.

They are very mod-able. (is that a word?) LOL Anyway some are getting 100HP out of them is you have the $$$$.

One REALLY good thing about them is they are really easy to ride. My 13 YO daughter can ride mine all around my ranch with no problems.

Good luck with your new quad. Let us know what you deside.
