08 Prairie 360 Diff Lock Stopped Working
#1
The Differential Lock stopped working Sunday while plowing out the neighborhood. I didn’t even know it wasn’t working until I tried to back away from a pile of snow and started spinning 3 wheels. When I pulled the dif lock leaver no change right front was spinning, left front was stationary. I think the differential is okay because yesterday while riding in the woods I broke through the ice and the left front was spinning the right front stationary just what you would expect from a standard differential.
I pulled out the manual to get an idea of how the thing works. Looks pretty simple, cable pulls a leaver at the differential and engages a clutch pack. The more you pull the more it engages.
When I bought this machine I also bought the Kawai Pre-Paid Service which should cover the repair.
Question: If it’s not something simple like the cable came loose can it wait until I take it in for the next service???? I’ve got 45 hours on it now and the next service is about 65 hours away.
Reason I’m asking is their saying we could get another 8”–12” of snow tonight through tomorrow. The trailer to take it to the dealer is snowed in from the 14” of snow we got last weekend and with my heart I need to plow rather than shovel the new snow.
Thanks
Nick

From experience I wouldn't be too quick to give the dealer any more info than required. A big mistake would be to say, "it stopped working but I continued using it because I wanted to keep plowing." I'm not saying you shouldn't keep plowing, just don't provide this info to the service dept.

Here's why I want to wait for the next PM service to get it fixed.
When I bought the bike the sales person said the service contract covers all parts and labor for 6 services or 3 years which ever comes first, regardless of the cost. I said "so if I blow the engine you replace it no charge"; she said "yes but it uses up one of the 6 services".
I'll bet your right though and somewhere in the fine print is an out for them if the service goes over a certain amount.

That's good to know. I just bought my first NEW ATV, a 2009 Prairie 360. There's way too much snow now to pick it up today. I just might consider the extended warranty when I get it on Sat (hopefully). We're getting all kinds of snow around here! thanks
Do u recommend the warranty?

I also have an 08" prairie 360. My diff. lock has left me stuck with three wheels spinning also. Thank GOD I have a warn winch. I have adjusted the cable and it seems to work when Im not stuck because when you pull the lever in, the sterring gets much harder. Im not sure why that is.
