Default 05 700 prairie starting problems

Does not want to start when engine is cold.Try and try until battery is dead, then have to use jumper cables to get it started.Got to have choke all the way on and pump the throttle to get it to start. After the engine is warm, it starts just fine without choke or throttle and runs great.

Can anyone help me out?

Alot of the v-twins are jetted too lean on the front carb, take the carbs apart and put the same size main jet in the front carb that the rear carb has , will start and run better.

There is a good reason why the front main jet is usually smaller than the rear - because the front cyl runs hotter.

If the starting problem was not present from the beginning, something went wrong during the ownership. Fix what went wrong instead trying to change the original setting.

The Kawi's choke system on KVF V-twins are fuel enrichening system which is made of slall brass plunger that opens (choke on) and closes (choke off). Corrosion often occurs on the plunger and it becomes stuck. Yours might be stuck at closed position and it is not moving at all even when you press choke lever all the way to ON/OPEN position. Since it is a V-twin with twin carbs, there are 2 plungers one for each carb. Check them out.

Default stalling

Please see my "360 valve adjustment" thread. My problem was similar and was resolved once I adjusted the valves per the Service Manual's specs.

Tight valves is not a common problem on 700, as on the 360. Also, tight valves also would typically show another symptom such as engine stalling when coming to a stop in addition to hard the starting. The OP of this 700 did not mention that his enigne was stalling. In fact he said the quad runs great after starting. But checking/adjusting valves is a good idea on any engine.

Thanks for all the possible problems! I have tried all that was suggested, and it ended up being the valves. They were too tight.

Thanks again everyone!
