Fuel concerns for 09 250 bayou
#1
This is my first atv and I have some concerns about the fuel I use. I use regular unleaded gasoline (87 octane) with 10% ethanol. I've heard some bad things about gasoline containing ethanol.
I want more power out my 250. I used to use 97 octane with octane boost in my Honda CRF 150 dirt bike, and although to bike was jetted, it seemed to increase the power noticeably.
Is it ok to use high octane fuel in my 250 or does it make a difference at all?
I should probably mention that I plan on venting my air box, installing a performance air filter, and maybe adding a new jet kit.
I'd like to hear any suggestions or similar experience anyone has had.

I had a Honda TRX 300 4x4 and did a K&N filter and a slip on exhaust and it always ran better with a higher octane fuel I would suggest using at least a 97 octane it won't hurt anything and should make it run a little better.

I've heard some bad things about fuel additives but some people swear by them.
Products like, carb cleaner, octane booster, mystery oil, just to name a few.
Can anyone tell me what kind of experience they've had with fuel additives?

i use premium pump gas (91 - 93 octane) in all my machines, to include my bayou 250's. they run solid, but they are stock, so obviously nothing to write home about (don't get me wrong, i love these little things, they are a blast!).

Do you have a high compession piston in the quad or is it stock?
If stock, a higer octane fuel will not do a thing for power.
In fact if it is stock compression, the fuel with alky in it will give you more power, but your mileage will drop a bit.

It's un-modified for now, but I'm jetting it and adding a uni filter and opening up the air housing with a few 2" holes. I want to get the full power pontential out of the engine. I want an aftermarket exhaust kit but I can't find one. Even a slip on would be better than nothing. It still needs to be quiet though. Any suggestions?
