Default kfx400 Boy did I mess up. What can I do?

04 kfx 400. Im replaceing a timing chain and gear. I took the clutch off than I started to take the crank nut off so I can remove the timing gear.

Guess what I did???????????? Anyone ?????????? yup, I put a inpack on the nut and turned it counter clock wise till it started to move and than it moved and moved. Well I did not know that it was a left hand thread but I do now. So the nut was stuck on the crank with no hope of comeing off, it just spends and spends. I got the air grinder out and started cutting, boy was I ever careful. I got the nut off with out hitting the crank.

After looking at the treads on the crank they dont look to bad but one thread in the middle is a little messed up.

I do not want to split the case to install a new crank so what are my options? I have ordered a new nut and I hope that it will just go on and every thing will be fine. What do you all think I should do ? No smart A_ _ 's please. I feel like crap about this.

well your best bet would be to get a die to you size and run it down the threads to clean them up and to fix the damaged ones a easy and quick fix id done the same you can ever tell by the looks what way it goes

Default sounds good

That is what I have planed to do. After I get the new nut I will try to size it up to get the die I need to chase it. Any one know what size die I need? Thanks for your input.

Another thing I have done if you have enough room is washer or double washer in front of the nut. This will get you out of the area of boogered up threads. Also might be a good idea to blue loctite it.

Another possibility would be a thread file if the shaft is only slightly damaged. It's hard to believe that only 1 thread is bad as you said above but if that's really the case you may be able to clean off any high spots with this...

Thread Repair File - Metric - General Tools & Instruments

Note that it has multiple thread pitches on it so you would hopefully have one that matches the shaft...

Default cool

Never saw or heard of this type of tool. This is way cool, not sure how it works. The middle thread looks to sit lower than the other threads that is why I said it was messed up. Thanks for your idea, I love it when people try to help others like this. Thanks again.

Thanks for all your help guys. Its people like you that save poor people like my self tons of money.
