Default brute force knock

2005 brute force knock
I have a knock looking for help
I pulled the clutch and the knock is still there so I was thinking crank bearing so i removed the jugs and checked to see if there was any play in the crank bearing. doesn't seem to be any .I did notice one of piston seems to be scuffed on one side. could this be piston slap that i am hearing ? if so what causes piston slap?

thanks Bob

Scuffed piston means obviously you sucked in some dirt into the engine. You may not feel the play in the rod bearing by hand but I bet it is worn out. Also, you only checked one. Usually the front one goes out first (because it runs hotter). You need to pull it apart and put in a set of new rod bearing bushings.

Knocking only on the belt side means usually two things:
1. Belt is worn out or irregularly worn or hourglassed. Needs to be replaced.
2. Spider shoes in the drive converter are worn out or too small. Need to be replaced.

One way to check to belt is to remove it, and run the engine to see if the knocking noise is still there or not.
