Default Kfx 400

I have a 2004 kfx 400 i just bought from a guy who said all it needed was to be timed. Well i timed it now but when i try to turn it over it still wont start. I noticed after i try to turn it over and put it back to tdc and look at the cams its not timed anymore. Cam chain is pretty loose. Would that be the problem?? Or what might be happening??? Would be nice to get reply asap! Thanks!!

Most of the time when an engine needs retimed is because it jumped time or someone time wrong..since said chain was loose then I would check the tensioner to see it has slipped, try to reset it and retime cam an chain to gether,, IMO also would check to see if engine has an bent value, this engine does have much room for value to be off any...Do an leak down test after you get tdc back an listen for compression to leak out of values thru carb and exhaust ports,,You will have to remove car and exhaust to hear leakage better,,But my guess would be needs new cam chain.....Alot of time this sport model atv gets rode hard down the road an cam chain gets hot an starts strecthing....Check back in with us when you check this..Thanks Good luck

well i did modify the tensioner in the shop so it was longer. so now the chain is tight. but could not get it to start still. not sure what this could be?? not much of an expert when it comes to these kinds of things. all i know is that the valves do move up and down. and the cam chain is tight now. it gets spark, and when i put gas right into chamber it still wont fire. not sure why

Ok I would check compression on engine to see if got good compression..120-150 atleast to make an good start up.If compression is out of specs then check value clearance and I think this engine is an shim type adjustment.. I would also be aware of any bad clearance on one value this could be an sign of an bent value...Also if you have an friend that has an enigne leak down tester it would be good to do this to see if you had an value leaking before you do value ajustment then would have an ideal of which value or any value issues.....I f you like just get back on here after doing an compression check an let us know what it is..Good Luck
