1.Is there a way to modify the left-hand brake so that it is hydraulically activated?

Kodiak01- the answer is the piston is no. there are no aftermarket 10-1 out there. The pairrie 300 uses a 9.2-1 verses the lakota 8.6 to 1 . 4 stroke tech has a kit to bump it up to 322cc or stroke it to 352cc. Don't hold me to those exact cc numbers as my long term memory is not to great. Web cam has a better cam for it. Give them a call. I cammed,jetted,k and n, dg exhaust and removed the racks off of mine. With stock gearing mine would do a honest 60 mph. with a one tooth smaller front(11) it top out way to slow. If you really want the most out of your Lakota, 4 stroke tech is probably the best answer. I like everything that i did to mine, just wanted a little more low end. I thought about milling the head, but never did it. I just picked up my new RAPTOR friday. One heck of a quad. Have not decided what to do with the lakota yet.
