Lakota replaced with a Raptor
#21
Thanks for the input Mojave.
14min., I run Bel-Ray semi-syn. 10w/40. My quad is green. I looked at a red one, but since I hunt I wanted something that could not be seen from so far away by people. Rock on about the track! That would be great. The guy who had the really hopped up quad went by RideorDie. He gave me a lot of info. I remember an article in Dirt Wheels awhile back, early '99 I believe, that had a Mojave and a Lakota decked out with the 350 strokers. I would love to get my hands on that article. I looked under their archives but it wasn't there. I did get the Mar. '00 with the Lakota test. They really spoke highly of it. As far as my buddies 400EX. I like mine better to be quite honest. I love his acceleration but it quickly tops out and not to a OMG higher speed than the Lakota. The Lakota steers easier. I think the stock shocks on the 400 are to stiff. Of course it is much better coming off big jumps, but rarely do I get 4-5 feet. It is lighter and easier to ride hard but very uncomfortable (IMHO), but after a full day of hard riding the Lakota I feel like I got a good work out. I like that though. The guy who owns the 400 likes my Lakota too. He even said one day on the way back from the Badlands (He always rides with me) that he would be quite satisfied with one if he hadn't got the 400. He mentioned how easy it steers and how comfortable it is with more plush sus. I hold with him on the trails and in the sand (he usually follows me though. In fact, I usually lead the whole pack). Neither of us have paddles or anything though. Of course in a drag he'll get me but I'm leading for the 1st 10 yards or so. He has rejetted and added a FMF Powercore IV with a K&N. In my opinion, it is simply okay. It didn't make me want to go get one by any means, the Raptor, however, is very tempting.

Stebob- I have that article on the lakota and mojo somewhere in the house. When i locate it i will make you a copy of the article. I called 4 stroke tech about it. He would not sell me the parts. He said he was weeks behind. I want to say the price was mid 500.00 dollar range for the bore ,cam, headwork and piston.I type to slow, and i'm tired. Catch you tommorow.

Cool! I would like to see what they had to say about it. Wonder how bad it would affect reliability. Wonder what'up with FST not selling you the parts. Guess the parts are dirt cheap and they are making their money off the labor. Think I'm gonna get a set of Dura Blue wheel spacers for my machine next. I've heard good things about the improvement in handling after they have been installed. After that maybe rims and tires, but I think I am just going to leave it alone. Who knows, I say that now!

stebob-still here. The weather has been real nice. Have been running the dozer alot to make up for lost days. I have finished the track at the house, and working on other projects. I have spent alot of time on the raptor after dark. Good thing it has good lights. In a week or so i will posts my thoughts on the raptor. I plan on taking it in this week for its 1st service. I am going to put a 12 tooth sprocket on the front. I am still looking for the mag article on the hop up of the mojo and Lakota. Wife and i are going to casino in mississippi this weekend. Got to leave the raptor behind. I think i am going to give my sister my Lakota. She has 65 acres 2 miles from my house. There will be times that it will be of more benifit than the rap. A friend that lives 5 miles from me has 3 raptors. He came by the other day and looked at some of the trails in progress. In about 2 more weeks he is bringing his small tractor to do some final work on the trails. I think i will be able to come up with about 6 or 7 miles of trails. I know that i have ask you before, but i forgot. Do you ride your Lakota daily? I have coffee every morning with a group of 70 year old farmers. If i am late they assume that i have crashed the raptor.Got to figure out how to get a web page.RaptorRRC (the guy that has 3 raps) is always putting together rides, hopefully this summer i will have alot of free time. Whats been happening your way? Later.

14., No, I am not able to ride my quad everyday. I have to keep it out at my friends house (the one with the 400EX). It is about a 20 min drive from my apt. I work from 12-9pm so I only get to see it really on the weekends. Put the bar on, great fit and looks good too! Thanks! Ya know the 2 tightest damn screws on the quad were the 2 that hold the rear brake light on. I had to drill them out. Couldn't believe it. I may be heading to TX in either July or Aug. to visit my parents in San Angelo. Really cool about your track. Someday I hope to be able to have something like that myself. That would be great. Keep me posted on that Raptor. Talk to ya later.
