Default Original or new aftermarket piston

I'm getting ready to do a top end rebuild on my 86 Bayou 300 and I'm debating on whether it would be better to reuse the original piston with a new set of Kawasaki rings (assuming that everything is still within specs when I tear it apart) or go with an aftermarket Namura piston and rings. Cost wise, it's about the same either way. What would you do?

kawasaki rings cost as much as a namura piston and rings? you might want to find a new place to buy parts.

That piston is almost 30 years old! As long as it is apart I would swap that out as well. Don't forget to freshen the cylinder as well.

The main reason I was asking is that I've been reading mixed reviews about the Namura pistons and any of the aftermarket snowmobile pistons I've seen look really cheap compared to the originals. I assume the ATV pistons are no better. I'd gladly replace the piston if I thought it would last longer than reusing the original one. I'll have to make that decision when I get it torn apart and see what the piston looks like.

Exactly. Seems Wiseco has forged pistons for your machine. I would start there if you can't find oem.
