2003 Kawasaki prairie 360 belt stays engaged..
#1
Ok so I bought a prairie 360 for $250 from a guy who was tired of it taking up space in his garage, he had no idea what was wrong with it, wouldn't start, had no power with a good battery. Picked it up and put a new carb, battery, and ignition switch and it starts and runs great. BUT now it started to creep while in gear, grinds into gear (no reverse just grinds) and it stays in 4x4 won't shift out. Could the belt be too tight? The idle is set low enough but it's now to the point where when I put it in gear it just dies making it no longer rideable.. it just started snowing today and I would really like to have it out and about to play this weened plus need it to fix fence with. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

There are a number of youtube and other videos on cvt transmissions out there to read up and understand cvt trannys. Your best bet is to open it up and check out the belt and clutch operation, might be a broken spring or two or frayed belt. Some people run thru mud and water and it gets into the cvt system and globs it all up. Someone may have put an aftermarket belt on it or......??? Open it up to check it out.

On my 2000 Praire you put a straight edge across the belt and push with your finger to measure the deflection, don't remember what it was. When I had mine I found a website Called "Nyrocs ATV" that used to be real good on Kawasaki stuff. I know his website is still up and he has many areas for trouble shooting cvt trannys.
