Default Kawasaki Prairie 300 4x4

Just bought an 01 Prairie 4x4, it is leaking gas from around the TAP. I have ordered a new one to replace. There is another problem when the TAP is turned to ON after 10-15 min it will sputter like its out of gas, can switch to the reserve and it runs with no problems. Is this possible the fuel filter, or can the leak in the TAP be causing these issues????

You can always pull the lines from the fuel filter(#49019) and see if fuel flows ok. If it doesn't,the longer filter(on position ) in tank may be stopped up.If both are flowing ok,then replacing the leaking tap should solve it.

When it comes to the fuel system you need it good and clean. Along with replacing the tap, I would flush the tank really well as well as fuel lines and any filters on it. Dirty fuel can cause problems down the line so do it right the first time. I owned this same machine for more than 16 years, that thing was bullit proof, used it for plowing my 300 ft driveway, trail riding and as a tractor around my property. Never had an issue for the 16 yrs I owned it.

Default Thanks

That is what I am doing, previous owner said he had it serviced, but apparently not. I have replaced the TAP. I am replacing the fuel lines, fuel filter, and going to clean the carb this weekend.

You shouldn't just clean the carb, you should do a complete rebuild with all new gaskets. The kit will give you proper float settings and needle valve start settings. Be sure all those tiny little passages are perfectly clean as a grain of sand can clog one right up. Keep us posted..
