Kfx 700 Problem

My 2006 KFX700 will only top out at about 25 mph, I hit 5000 rpm and it starts to sputter and backfire and will not go any faster not sure what to do to fix this. Any suggestions?

It may be in limp mode. Are there any of the lights on the dash on?
