You're right about the 400, under the hood it had a million miles of wiring and unprotected circuitry. When my oil light started to just flicker off and on, I took it upon myself to fix it personally. When I took the hood off, I was amazed at all the wiring up in there. I just put it back together and forgot about it.

Hmmm...sitting here reading this post makes me shake my head. As far as I'm concerned, not every Tom, Dick & Harry has the capabilities too maintain their machines properly, hell... I bet half the riders out there don,t even know what a sparkplug is. Honda is a big name in the industry but, it doesn't mean it's perfect. Polaris has been around for awhile & improving in some areas but, it doesn't mean it's perfect either. All other brands out there have their good & bad things going for them, but that doesn't make em prefect also. Bottom line is... if you know dick sh*t about the mechanics of your equipment, your liable to have breakdowns sooner or later, and I don't care what brand you ride. Sure some of you may have a million miles with-out a problem, SWEET- I'm happy for you. Some are gonna have LEMONS for sure, DRAG- I feel for you. Some just plain don't take care or maintain their machines.
The machines are better than yesteryears & improving as years go by, at least most are, but no matter how good a machine can be, someone out there well whine about it. After all, it's MANMADE!
Most over rated??? Who cares what I think or what they think, at least I have a quad...ZoomZoom...I'm outta here.

Slinger,
Wow.
Some day I want to own a [red]SUPER HONDA[/red].
I was not aware that a Honda was so pwerfull and had so much traction. It could pass through a mine field of exploding Polaris ATV'S while single handedly Pulling one dead Polaris, and pushing a Stuck Sportsman out of the mud.
Wow, a Honda can move 2 dead Polaris's as it goes through a section of mud that a Sportsman got stuck in.
The mud where you live must be very different the mud everywhare else.
Thanks for the Laugh.
A little humor in the morning is always a good thing.

It isn't a Honda, it is a Kawasaki. I pulled the Sportsman that still had power but couldn't track well because of the broken rear end. The Polaris I pushed was an Express not a Sportsman. The mud here is real, your wheeler is not. I'd follow my own advice if I were you and get a Honda. If you think you like that Polaris, you'll go crazy over a good used Honda.

Touche! Slinger...That's one for you! Too bad your so self centered! I'm not hear to bash your quad, but your attidude really sucks. Someday I hope, your broken down / stuck somewhere & along comes a machine, (other than your brand), & does you the favor of helping you out of your situation. I'm sure you'd be to embarrased to talk about it like your doing now.
Sorry Springdrl...It's off the topic but I couldn't help myself.

Well i have had my 400ex for over a year and i ride it HARD. We ride hard over woops and jump a lot. The only thing that i dont like is the cheap plastic and the rear tires puncture easily. The motor itself has been great, no problems at all. I have heard of a ton of Raptor problems on the Yama Board but i know a few people who have Raptors and they have been ok. Remember that behind hype is Money.

Zoomzoom,

Why does Slinger's attitude suck? Is it because he relayed some real world experiences that contradicted your personal preference in quads? It's kind of comical to see the polaris owners rally into a circle against a guy who gives personal experiences as proof that polaris is junk. All of you assumed he was another Honda rider bashing polaris because of the obvious superiority of the Honda machines only to discover he drives a Kawasaki. News Flash: You don't have to be a honda driver to realize that polaris puts out an inferior product. I'm not brand loyal to anything other than being against polaris because it's my experience that they are junk. If you can't handle the facts then go hide your head in the sand, don't bash a person for relaying their experiences. It doesn't seem to me that slinger's the self centered one. I think you and the other's who bashed him owe slinger an apology.

If you say so Hunter32, whatever...I just added another 30 miles of rough terrain again to-day on my piece of so call junk. Nothing fell off, broke off, etc... & I had a passenger with me & still made it back to the truck & everything is still working & there's no missing parts etc... All in all we had a great day on my piece of junk. Now if something would have broken down to-day & left us stranded in the middle of no-where, then I would have a reason to curse my machine which happens to be a Polaris at this moment, and not one of the other super duper brand out-there.
Anyway I'm tired, it's late so I'll apologize cause I'm losing interest on this subject & I'm not out to hurt anybodys feeling or whatever.

I own a '99 Polaris Xplorer 400, and I can honestly say that, if an ATV with better features (2-stroke power, automatic/manual transmission like a Rubicon, IRS, selectable 2WD/4WD, NOT a limited-slip front end, comfortable seat and ergos, reliable and durable) came along, the only thing to stop me from buying it would be the price, and I would do everything in my power to overcome that.
No where did I say that my "dream ATV" would have to be from a specific manufacturer. If it's reliability had been proven, I'd buy it from a start-up company that nobody had ever heard of before.

Don't buy the thing for the name it has emblazoned on the side, but it for the things it has that you want.
