White Brothers Mojave cams
#1
The hardface is coming off of my cams in an '87 Mojave and I am considering puting White Brothers cams in since they are billet and don't need cores. I would like to know from someone that has them what the power is like. do they give more on top, mid, or low end? Also do you need racing valve springs?

I have these cams in one of my Mojaves. They boost the power all through out the power band but mostly low-mid. You do not need race valve springs for these cams since they are "all-around" cams. They are worth the money.

That's cool, I don't know much about moding, I am having enough trouble keeping my mojave together, I have a '93, needs water pump, kick start gear, rear shock/tires. I don't have much money to spend on it, anyone know where I can get parts cheap, catalog or something.
Thanks

If the cam produces more bottom end thats fine too. You could always gear up a bit when you have more torque on hand. That engine is pretty torquey and flat anyways so your could probably go up a bit with it stock, add more bottom and you could probably gain quite a few mph.
How much did you pay for your cam?

Mojaveracer, If you want more top for flat tracking and stuff the web cam largest grind will do much better than the white bros. Web has only two grinds for the Mo. I used the larger one and the top end is great, of course a little bottom is lost. You will need a set of springs with this cam as you would with any large cam for top end power. You will also need the rev limiter removed. Add a 38 pe carb and loose a little more bottom but make the top scream.

I was considering using the top-end Web Cam but since mine is going bad I don't know if they will accept the core. How much is the core charge? If it is $200 or less I will get them.
Horsepower on top is MUCH better for racing than torque to pull high gearing. For flat tracks you are constantly changing gearing for each track. You need to be able to accelerate through corners to get to that top-speed.
I was also considering getting a 38mm PE anyway. I was going to get it for the 300EX and use a 300EX thumb throttle. Will this work? Also do you need a new manifold? I test-fit a PWK 38 from a KX 250 and the manifold was REALY stretched.
Thanks for the responses!

Mojaveracer, As long as the cam is only worn or bad on the lobe it is ok for a core. Web will use your cams and then ship it back. Cost me 150 plus shipping. You may want to take the rockers to a machine shop and have them refaced. I used a 300ex thumb throttle and got a 38PE kit with cable for a 250X. You will have to grind the stop in the thumb throttle to get WOT. The carb fit in the intake boot easily. You will have to cut away some of the top rear engine mount to clear the cable. The carb is jetted way to rich and will require soom work to get it right. I had to change the main and pilot jets.
Power on top is good but you must keep it revved up in the range. The mojave I built for my son has a wiesco piston, high rev springs, stainless valves, supertrapp race pipe, clamp on K&N and rejetting, but no cam and a stock carb. Mine has the big web cam, ported head, and 38PE in addition to the other stuff. On the same motox track his needs to run in 3rd gear most of the time to be fastest, but mine has to be in second most of the time to be fastest. Both bikes have the same gearing.
