Kawasaki Mojave Reverse Engagement
#11
Kawi 250, I was going to tell you how to fix reverse but sounds like you got it.
The bike is running more than 43 mph. If you set the frt wheel size to 10" it is way off. You must set it to the diameter or the circumference of the outside of the tire depending on what type of speedo you have. The diameter is about 21" for a stock front tire but you should measure it exactly. You can find the circumference mathematically from the diameter or mark the tire and the ground and the roll the tire one revolution to the same point again. Mark the ground and the distance between the two ground marks is your circum.
This is how far you travel each time the speedo takes a reading and it thinks its only 10" or is calculated from a 10" diameter now. Read the directions for the speedo very closely and make sure you get it set right.
A stock Mojave can easily pull a 13 tooth frt sprocket, which is one tooth more than stock.
The coolant problem may not be a problem unless you are adding a lot of coolant. If you pack the system with coolant it will expand and blow some out when it gets hot. after it blows a small amount out and gets to the "full hot" level it should quit and be ok. If it cools down the level will drop some more and then you may be packing it full again. If you think its close to empty after riding awhile, then thats a different story.

Hey, thanks very much for all the useful information! I thought that the quad ran faster then 43, It feels like it. I will re caslibrate the speedo, and check the speed. I was going to do a compression check, but the tester thread was thicker then the thread on the head. Also, about how much more speed could i expect from a 13 tooth front sproket? Would i have to lenghten my chain? Also, I ride tight trails, would it really affect the bottom end of my stock motor that much? Thanks for the tips!

Not sure how much nore speed you get with the 13 in MPH. It is noticable to me though. It will still be fine on the trails, some people even like it better on the trails because they get more use out of 1st and 2nd gear. The bottom end lost is very minimal. You will notice it most when trying to start off on a good size hill. You will not have to lengthen the chain.

I got my Speedometer from my bicycle shop, "Bicycle World" I took a high quality mountain bike speedometer, and instead of splicing the wire, i bought an extra long wire kit for it (used on bicycles to put the speedo on the rear wheel). It is completely water proof, and works well. I epoxied the magnet to the inside of the front wheel, and I ran the sensor cable down the front brake line, and put the sensor on the upper A-arm ball joint mount. It is protected there, and works when the wheel turns too. Hope this Helps!

I re-calibrated the speedo today, it reads 55mph in 5th gear pinned. I ordered a 13-tooth front sproket, and I will see what the gain in MPH is on top speed. Also, I will see if 1st and 2nd gear are more usable in the trails, and the amount of bottom end it takes away. As soon as I get the sproket, I will post the results. Thanks for Listenin!

That's kinda funny now that you told me that. I just noticed that my nephew has that type of speedo on his mountain bike. The answer was right in front of me for the speedo, but I just wasn't imaginative enough. I may barrow your design and try it myself. It would be nice to know how much certain mods or gear changes really effect the machine. Thanks
