I'm going to order up some 27" 589 tires on .190 douglas aluminum rims. I'm not to sure how to order the rims. Does anyone have aftermarket rims on their 650? What kind of offset do I get? I've heard that I can just order the kit for the Prairie 400, and it will fit my 650. Is this true? Thanks.

Can't help you on the rims, but I made a post a few days ago on the 589AT's and had only one response to my question. Maybe you can help me. Have you had experience with them? I want to use them for the snow. How are they in the snow? What else can you tell me? Thanks.

jefffoxsr, I have 589AT's on another vehicle of mine, but it is only a 2 wheel drive. From my experience, the 589's just dig in the deep snow. The stockers may provide more floatation, depending on conditions. That is one of the reasons I'm getting them mounted on separate rims - so I can use either the stockers or the 589's. I've read about some people who have the 589MT's, and they wobble at high speeds and cause vibrations. Many other haven't had this problem, though. So I'm going with the 589AT's.

HillbillyBob, so I can just order the tires and rims for a Prairie 400, and they'll fit? I'm just a little concerned about the offsets of the rims because of the gas tank on the 650. Thanks.

92LT,

If you're worried about the tank and have a few extra bucks go out and get some spacers for the rear. I put spacers on mine with 27"x 12" Outlaws and have plenty of room. When I get some pictures I'll put em up. They look great! I feel like I'm driving a tractor though.

If you want an extremely strong rim, call Leon at OMF Performance Products 909-354-8272. He is making me new rims for my 650. OMF buys blank .190 rims from Douglas and adds rim locks on the outside of the rim and support rings on the inside of the rim. The end result is an unbelievable strong rim that will handle about anything you can through at it.

Last year I ran oversize tires during the winter on both a Grizzly and a Kodiak and I noticed two problems. First, your tires ride on top of everyone else tire groove so your front tires don't automatically follow the existing tire grooves. The second problem I encountered was that in deep snow the over size tires would just dig in, not necessarily move you forward. I had much better luck when I went back to stock tires for the winter.

I plan on mounting Maxxis Sur-Trak tires to on the OMF rims for this winter. I also added angle footpeg extensities which I ordered from Mike Penland. These are great ‘cause it’s easier to rock your wheeler in the snow or mud.

Oldman Wheeler,
Have you had experience in the Winter with the Sur Trak's? If so, how are they? Thanks.

No not yet. Last year I ran 27" ITP Blackwater XTs and I didn't get around any better then anyone else. In fact once we got in the woods I was bouncing off trees like a rubber ball because my tires were riding on top of the groove while everyone elses where riding in the groove. It works kind of like a roller coaster and the grooves just guided them through the tight curves.

We get a lot of wet snow here in Iowa so I figure the Sur-Trak will do a better job of staying clean the say the Maxxis All-Traks. I guess I'll find out in a few months.

Hey Oldman Wheeler..I saw Mike Penlands 650 at the ATV jamboree in Tenn. over the holiday weekend. Talked to him a while and he gave me his card, but it dosen't have a email address. I'd really like to get a set of those angled foot peg extensions. Does he have a web site?? THANKS
