What kind of oil?

If it calls for 10w-30 I would use it. I don't think you need anything special. I would use what they call for during warranty period. I make my own blend for my machines. I have never had any clutch problems. I do change my oil often. Do a search on oil. You will get all kinds of posts. Might even be one in their telling you water is a good thing. Just kidding. Chet

hold on just follow me thru this im an automotive tech and have been for many years... first off use oil no snytec what ever... second run 20-50 castrol or valeoline there very clean oils with no ash deposits etc.... in the winter it you ride go to 15-40 that will be fine.. oh change the filter .. also good day........ There was a discussion on this in one of the other forums and some one scaned an article from some research they did in a mag. The skinny is that the automotive oils are as good and/or better than the "atv" oils Yamalube the Kaw stuff etc. It did say not to run lower than I believe it was 10w40 in a wet clutch system. If you look on the back of 10w30 it will say energy conserving II or something like that and those oils have friction modifiers or something and they claimed it will cause clutch squeel. I run Mobil 1 15w50.

Try to use an oil that carres a more narrow viscosity range, say 10W-30 as opposed to 10W-40. You'll get more oil and less non-lubricating additives per unit volume.
I have also had outstanding performance while using Valvoline.

A little FYI
Use an oil that is made for an ATV or motorcycle.......car oils have a lower shear point.....car oils do not run through transmission gears or a wet clutch(please keep this in mind when you buy your oil).
Motorcycle / ATV type oils have a higer polymer count for a higher shear point for running through transmissions & wet clutches.
If you insist on using car oil....make sure you change it frequently,as it will breakdown much quicker....especially under severe use.
