I have a 2001 Kawasaki Mojave with a K&N Air filter and a jet kit. I had a cobra exhaust but it was way to loud so i had to get rid of it. What kind of simple things can i do to make this bike faster. I would appreciate any feedback.
Thank you,
Ryan of New jersey...
ps..anyone know of any cool places around jersey to camp out and go riden?

ry415,
You might want to look into the supertrapp ISD2 exhaust system, I have heard that they help with performance but are not extremely loud either, its the system I will be going with on my Lakota. I am also thinking about going up 1 tooth on the front sprocket, I believe that this will give you a little more top end, not sure if you lose some of the bottom end of the power band though. Both of these mods could be done for under $300. I know that I will be getting the K&N power kit and the ISD2 system, not sure about the front sprocket yet. One last thing, you might want to swap out the stock tires for something wider and lower, that will help with handling, not sure what it will do to the powerband.
Just some food for thought, let us know what you end up doing and how it works out for you. Good riding!

I like the IDS2 a lot. I started with the quiet series, but got the race core (much louder) and what a difference that made! Even without any discs (wide open), the quiet series is very tolerable. This is a well made exhaust, although I had some fitament problems-not too hard to get around. I'm a little rich now on the jetting, but not far off-runs real good in the evening-cooler air I guess. You have to decide if you want top end, bottom end, or a mix of both and go from there. Also you can save some money and do more precise jetting if you order individual jets-I get 'em for $3.11 each from Parker Yamaha-If you can install the K&N/Dynotjet kits, you can swap jets until you get it right-for less $-just have a starting point and go up-Mojaves run a 132 main jet stock.

Dirt wheels magazine magazine had a White Brothers built mojave, it use to be on the net. I printed it out let me find it.
Unfortunately you can't go any further untill you get an agreeable pipe.
Here it is I found it.
Ok White brothers E-series S-bend aluminum muffler (259.95)
They say it isn't much louder over stalk 89dB vs 93dB, not bad.
Of course they say add a jet-kit and free flow air filter.
How much faster do you want to make this thing, If anything you have a big bore short stroke engine that usualy sets the after market world on fire.
How does the mojave go, I have a lakota and thought this would be for the kids and I'd get myself a mojave. But I enjoy the lakota so much and with the rumors of a new mojave coming I'm going to sit back and watch, and enjoy the lakota in the mean time.

Check out some of the posts from Lakota Sport Performance. Most of the upgrade info will apply to your Mojave.

ry145,
Ok i don't know how fast of a Mojave you are looking for, but I love the mojave and I am always looking for upgrades for it. Ok I know that Powroll has a stroker kit for the mojave which adds 30cc making it a 280cc. This will make a great difference in power. I also know that if you want even more you could get a 330 bore kit from Four Stroke Tech. 250 to a 330 is cool. Now the stroke kit cost $280 dollors and the 330 bore cost $325, not to bad if you ask me. You said you had a cobra pipe but it was to loud, like gaff said a whitebros. pipe is very good that is what I have on my mojave and it's louder than stock but it has a certain sound that anyone would like. These are the mods that I know about also if you do decide to go with any of these make sure you get a aftermarket cam, and you also might want to extend the swingarm which four stroke tech will do for another 325 so you wont be sailing back when you hit the gas. Good luck on your mojave

Guys I own a lakota and hope to ad a mojave to the off road inventorysoon, but.
The single most thing that interest me about kawis two sports is the short wheel base.
When I read about a swing arm extention I can't question what your doing but just make damn sure you have a reason for an extention not just because it looks cool.
It sure will affect the handling of your machine, but I don't have the hills down here, were I can see the short wheel base could affect you.
I also would like add, If big bore kits are your answer make sure the man who is selling you one has some answers like: what carb set up would be needed or will you have to buy another, what plug heat range is required, what is the timing of the cams or do you have to buy different ones.
Just make sure some answers are included in the purchase, thier are many hidden cost in bore upgrades not to mention the reliability of the machine will drop off.
If you are talking about swing arm extentions and big bore kits, let me save you some money and hart ache, you have the wrong machine for you try finding a different machine to better suits your needs

gaff-after reading a lot of your posts, I have come to the conclusion that you give well thought out and knowlegeable answers. That said I have to disagree that because we modify our machines(big bore, ext swingarms, etc) "you have the wrong machine for you try finding a different machine to better suits your needs"-I know there are more "race ready" atvs out there, but I happen like the Mojave. Also I think that all of us have the whole Tim Taylor thought process when it comes to mechanical things-nothing can remain stock! I don't know about you, but putting time and money into my atv gives me great pleasure when I get the results I am after. I'm sure if I owned any other atv I'd sink the same amount of resources into it also-it's just the way us guys beat our chests now a days!

Well I went back and read what I wrote about the mojave mods,
And I'm sorry guys I left the sport ten years ago at a very high spot of my carear with a promise to my wife I would finish raising my kids before I get back in.
Well thank the gods my son loves the sport and the son over rides the wife!
So as you are correct, I too had some of the graetest times of my life in basements and garages test and tuning and generaly making things faster.
The one thing I noticed in my writing is I sound like a father again.
Sorry won't happen again!!
