My take on the racing KXF 250.
#1
I was looking through an old issue of ATV Sport and read about the KXF 250 that Kawasaki is racing in the GNCC. Since a lot of people want the big four to come out with a two stroke racing quad I thought why else would Kawasaki put the time and effort into the KXF 250?
Well, I figure it is because they don't yet have an engine for the new sport quad even though the rumors are rampent about a V twin 650 or a 500 twin. The existing KX 250 motor is competitive and readily available which allows Kawi to test chassis ideas to further their sport quad developement. But I think they are still a couple years away before they release anything. My reasoning is that both the V twin and the 500 twin are both way too heavy to make for a good sport machine. The 500 twin is very similar in design to the present Mojave engine which is way too heavy to begin with and it is only a single.
I'm almost wondering if the new Kawi sport quad won't use a motor based on Suzuki's Quad Sport 400. But this might not be such a hot idea because then Kawi would compete directly with Suzuki and they entered into a partnership with some of their products.
I wonder what engine they have in mind?
