650 Chugging
#11
Standard pilot screw adjustment is 2 1/4 turns out. Today I verified that both were at spec.
I then put them both at 2 1/2 turns out hoping it would richen it a little and eliminate the chugging at slight throttle at slow speed and backfiring on deceleration from high speeds.
Although it is warmer today, 61 right now, it seems to be running better (no chugging or backfiring). I'll keep you guys posted as it gets colder into the lower 50's and upper 40's where it was really chugging before. Thanks.

yes turn the pilot screw in for lean side and turn out for rich side but it's not on pilot screw you fix your problem. it's fix your problem by raise your fuel level on float bowl and sych carbs after with mercure gauge. let your pilot screw at 2.25 turn out.on mine drop main jet at 138 rear and 135 front pull alot more top end.

Hey everyone, my tech told me he was having a few of these problems. mine was indeed backfireing through the front carb. I took the air filter off and watched it. the rear carb was fine. he found the boot was a little loose connecting it to the head. I wonder if they didn't really adjust the carbs. I ride at about 1500 to 3000 feet above sea level and the stock settings may be a little rich for this altitude.

I don't know if this belongs in this thread but I had some "chugging" all along the powerband and a significant decrease in engine performance. This started happening about 35 hrs on the machine. I am only average as far a mechanical ability and my purchase dealer was even more clueless. I took my 650 to a dealer 1 1/2hrs away and he found out I had an electrical problem that caused the rear cylinder to fire only intermittently. It is still in the shop as I asked them to replace the choke cable under warranty and they are waiting for one. Can't wait to get back on it to find out how it works. They did not elaborate over the phone about the electric problem but I will post more info as it is evident.

Look at my post above. Make the adjustments. If that doesn't work then you have two choices.
1. Figure it out yourself.
2. Have a ride you are pissed about while you passively wait for a recall that won't happen.
