Hey guys,

I'm new around here. I have been racing dirt bikes in hare scrambles and enduro's for the last 10 years with some moderate success. Last year I purchased a 2001 Grizzly 600 and had nothing but problems with it. I had it for almost a year and put only 85 miles on it because of how many times it was in the shop! Anyways, I had someone buy my Grizzly on Monday so I went out and bought the new Prarie 650. I must say that I really like the way this thing rides over my old griz. It doesn't seem as top heavy either. Yesterday I took it out to our farm to ride and break it in and I went up and down several inclines that I wouldn't have even attempted on the griz. I also got to play in some sand and can say that I am extremely happy with this 4 wheeler. I actually had so much fun that if it keeps up then I'll just sell my dirt bikes! I did notice one thing that was a little unusual: It seems that the auxillary fan sure does run an aweful lot. Is this common? I don't think the bike ever ran "hot" but is this something I should be concerned about? Again, there is not enough nice things that I can say about this bike I really am happy with my purchase. Plus I just wanted to say "hi". So hi.

Congradulations on your new purchase.I know exactly how you feel about your older Grizz.I've owned two brand new Polaris 4x4 ATVs since 1998 and they are both POS.Allways in the shop for repairs.Polaris parts dont hold up to normal ATV riding, than the customer suffers.Know matter what anyone tells me about how great Polaris 4x4s are,I dont see myself buying another one for a very LONG time,if ever again.

I have however rode my friend Jeffs brand new 660 Grizz and I cant say enough good things about this ATV.There is NO COMPARISON between the older 600 Grizz and the new 660 Grizz.

I wish you many happy yrs on your new toy,

Bill

Congrats on the prairie. A lot of griz 600 owners have been trading them back in, I have noticed. I know someone with a 660 and he has not had a serious problem yet.

Don't worry about the machine. Kawi did a real good job. Just ride it and do the maintenance.

It can overheat if enough mud gets dried on the radiator and/or if it is running bad due to clogged filter etc. Overheating is not all that common, but may appear more so on the forums. I think Kawi is working on a mud deflector or screen or something.

The some 02 prairie's could come with a sticky choke, or a loose belt, or a incorrectly adjusted shifter. If so, the dealer can fix it. The machine is truly well made, in spite of a few manufacturing inconsistencies. I am overjoyed that I picked it instead of the competition's machines.

It seems like overheating could occur even when radiator is not covered with mud on my 650. Hasn't happened yet to me but the fan is almost always ON. The fan on my street bike comes ON only when I am stopped at a stop light for a while or crawling on slow moving traffic. One thing I realized was that you should check/clean, not only the front side of the radiator, but the back side and cores/fins of the radiator as often as possible in order to keep the cooling system at its peak efficiency.
