Mudrunner Mud, Water, and Dirt Report #2 ---------------------------------------- and 650 Water and Mud Report #2
#1
Hey Guys,
I want to continue to provide information since I was helped so much in the past with my searches on this site.
I did some serious riding this weekend. I had my wife video it too, so I could really see what was going on.
Keep in mind that I haven't tried any other tires like 589's or Outlaws, so I can't reliably compare.
MUD:
To my surprise the tires do NOT dig me down, they keep pulling forward. There were times when the mud was so thick I was almost at a complete stop even though I had the 42 horsepower floored. It did not bury me. I COULD FEEL the swing arm hang up, so I leaned over the front at that time and it worked. I would think it would bury, but no, it the tires kept pulling forward somehow. Good job on the design by Goodyear (too short though, see other post). I am really surprised how much power is needed to go through super thick mud. I have to floor the 650 in low to get through some of it. I would imagine lesser quads just don't perform as well in the super thick stuff.
WATER:
I crossed a pond about 60 feet wide, water over the front rack, and thick mud to slow me down. The engine didn't even hiccup once. I crossed it about 6 times. I assume the belt housing is sealed properly since I had no belt slippage or anyting.
RIDE:
These tires are unbelievably smoothe anywhere from 5 mph and up. I can't believe it.
Is the Mudrunner better than 589 or Outlaw in mud? I couldn't tell you. I would bet that they are probably close, but I'm sure the Mudrunners ride MUCH smoother based on many reports from this web site of people who have owned both.
For a pure mud tire I would probably choose the 28" Outlaw. Those things look nice. For a stock replacement, the 25" (24"
Mudrunner works really well.
I hope this helps someone in their decison on tires.
Snow report to come soon!

Hay jeff,
Had an old friend drop by the other day. He stopped by to show me his new rubicon.
He asked me about the mud runners, I'll have to e-mail him this thread!
He was also pretty pissed about the 650 prairie just blowing him away.
He even went as far as to order a fmf pipe and jet kit. He had told me that they didn't make the K&N filter for it yet though. I told him that sounded kinda fishy, due to he ordered a dyno jet, jet kit. As far as my knowledge goes, I thought all dyno jet kits were tested with a K&N filter on the bike.
But any way, I can't believe he's going to put a fmf on this thing. It should be ear ringing fun to ride with him in the woods.
Well glad things are working out for you and your mud runners, sense the first report with dis-satisfied sizing and all.
Keep enjoying it!

no your not wasting your time. I check out this site at least every other day. I also own a 650, so I like reading up on other 650 on this site. You are right about the outlaw tires being a serouse mud tire, my 650 with 28-12.5 rears and 28-9.5 fronts plus the lift kit make my quad a serouse mud machine! keep on leaving messages and I'll keep on reading them!!! PS it snowed 4 inches last night time to go and tear it up!

When you say 25" (24"
mudrunner, what exactly are you refering to. I have an Idea.
I have 26" mudrunners on my 99 400 prarie and think there the best tire option for me, smooth easy steering and get through the mud great. The only hang up I have with them is there size. My 26" front tires barely measure 25.5" and my 26" back tires easily measure 27"(both at 6psi.). So far theres not a problem with this set up. But I did loose damn near 10 mph of top speed. I thought this was excessive but disregarded it until someone pointed out that my full time 4x4 might cause a drivetrain strain resulting in the decrease in top speed. What do I do now?
Next time around I plan on buying 27" fronts and 26" rears. So I will have 27" all around.
