Picked up a green 650 today!
How should it be "broke in"? I will be doing a lot of riding on Thanksgiving day.

Welcome to the 650 club! Just take it easy and don't see how bad you can smoke a 700 yet.... All joking aside don't hold it wide open for a long time, but other wise "RIDE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT" and have fun!!!

It should say in your owners manual about a break in period. My Mojave was something like "don't ride past 1/2 throttle for so many hours" I don't remember exactly but it basically said to take it easy for atleas one whole day (I think 10 hours) of riding before running past 3/4 throttle. I thought the break in period seemed excessive, but if I were you and just paid around $7,000 for the beast I'd follow the procedure to the dot.

Dealer seemed to think as long as you didn't hook on to something heavy, and try to drag it around, you wouldn't be working the engine very hard. That and extended periods of WOT.
