Lakota rebuild
#2
well you should be able to do it, with a manual.
The cost can't be judged, needing a rebuild means many things could be gone.
A wiseco piston kit is about $100
A cam is going to cost you $150, if you have a good core if not add $45
Definately buy a new oil pump.
Also get a new clutch.
I personaly would budget about $750, but you should be able to do it for $500 or less.
But my list of parts would have many more ponies in it!!!

No you don't have to buy all of it!
Wiesco piston kit 8.6:1 (stalk) $100
Fst piston kit 10.5:1 $165
These are two piston kits that come with every thing but the gaskets, wich you can get them fairly cheap.
If you think you need cam work, web cam or fst will do it for you, they both cost $150, with a good core.
You can get a race grind or a little better than stalk grind.
I see you use big tires so you probably don't care about high performance, but the wiesco is a little lighter piston and will give you a little better throtle response.
The four stroke tech piston, is also a litle lighter and raises the compression to give you some more low end tourque.
iF YOU WANT TO DO THE CAM, WEB CAM WOULD LIKE TO HAVE YOUR HEAD AND CAM TO PROPERLY SIZE YOUR CAM, FST HAS THE CAMS ALL WORKED OUT.
eITHER YOU GO WITH WILL WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU WANT OUT OF THE bIKE, AND MODS YOU HAVE DONE THUS FAR...............sorry about the caps lock.
It's not a huge project, I would purchace a piston pin puller, I don't know how much they cost now but I payed about eight bucks fourteen years ago.
Just take your time and be very obserbent, replace all worn parts, and have fun.

The bottom is a tricky answer, how well was the oil maintained, How much slack is thier.
Me personaly, yes, also new clutch, but this is me and I,ve left bottoms together with no problems, but you have to look at it!
No on the race gas, 11:1 is usualy the braeking point for race gas, and some 11:1 are made a little different were they don't even need race gas.
Unfortunately when it comes rebuild time, no one can answer all the questions untill you tear into it.
I would prepare my self for cam and top end replace ment and hope for the best. The clutch can be got at later.

I am in the process of rebuilding the top end in my Lakota right now. After we got into it, we had to replace the cam chain. Here's the price breakdown:
Wiseco Piston kit (with head & base gaskets) $109-Recreation Unlimited
Cam Chain and generator gasket $88-Kawasaki
Port & Polish head $100 (not required, but a good idea while it's down)
Good Luck!

Can you tell me how the intake looks, is it tapered, is it rough as well, does it look like it could use a little honing.
Sorry for the question, I know thiers a reason for the low rev!
Next month I'm going with the piston and cam, I figured that the intake track was rough, but any info I can get from you will better set me up as far as parts and that.
How about the clutch 98, any word on heavier springs being available, I've had no problems yet but I see my self putting it to the limit soon.
