Prarie 300 "to slow" ?
#1
I am very close to buying my first quad. I think the prarie will fit the bill but I am concerned about top speed. In a recent issue of one the ATV mags claimed top speed was 42mph. I am told that most new machines are capable of 50mph, speed isn't everything but this is quite a differance. Does any one have any idea on top speed.

My Prarie 300 does over 45 (with some throttle left), and it's only a few weeks old. I have not put it at full throttle, at least not long enough to gain a top speed.
It's a fine quad, and it will "hang" with most any quad in its class. If you are looking for speed though, you'll want something in the 400 or above cc class, or, a "sport" quad.
Trust me, this quad will suit your every need, and then some.

I have a Prairie 300 4x4 and have gotten it up to around 46 mph on a very long stretch of hard packed dirt road. My buddy walked off and left me with his Polaris Explorer 400, but hey, it's a 400 and he's been stuck several times and I haven't. I enjoy pulling him out. Don't really know if the 4x2 would be faster, I kinda suspect that it would be with less weight to contend with.

My fathers 300 will do 45 consistantly, which is good considering his 280# butt on the back of it. We mostly ride at slower and safer pace, say 35 and less. It takes the oh crap! factor out of most rides. My 400 will do 53 cosistantly with a when new speed of 55. If you can scrape the money up, Get the 400, it's every bit the quad of the 300 and soo much more.
