A friend has a 400 EX and he claims he will smoke me in a drag on my 650. Is this true? I'd like to hear from people who have direct experience with racing 400's.

Just tell him that you'll race him through mud about two feet deep; .
yes the 400ex will out run your 6504x4, It better! your talking a "high perfomance" quad agianst a utility quad. Like I said race him through some deep mud or snow then charge him 20bucks to pull him out.

I have never personally witnessed, however I have heard repeated from many diff people that the 650 will outrun or be so close to a STOCK 400ex in a straight line drag. If he is stock, I doubt he will SMOKE you, he might beat but you will prob. surprise him with what it will do. Let us know.

i think this would be a close race. a 650 smoked my lakota in a stright line. by 5 lengths plus, by the time i got to 4th gear. its hard to get a equal start in backyard racing.

The 400ex would win the race but the 650 wont be far behind, I'd say get a Monster Power kit to help your hp and low end power then you will have a chance.

Fact: Stock 650 beats a stock 400ex

I owned both for a while. My 400 ex was bone stock with ALL adjustments correct (valves, throttle, everything). The 650 beat it every time on pavement no matter who was on each quad.

The 650 should win, it's all about HP and getting it to the ground the smoothest, right?

there is a dealer near me that sells Honda and Kawi. The people that work at the dealer took new 400ex's and new 650's and raced them. The 650 won all races. I did not see it but several people have talked about it. I sure would not want to buy my new quad there however, these were new quads that were not broken in. How would you like to but a new quad that its first few minutes of running was a couple of drag races? Just in case anyone from where I live is wondering, it is not the dealer in Rock Hill.

WOW!! thats etheir VERY impressive for the KAWI or very sad for the 400ex. then I guess the Quest should outrun it to,atleast the MAGS say that it has a better mid and high than the KAWI. Did yall check out the ATVmagazine March issue? it has dyno runs on all the following:
650 kawi--------31.4hp
Quest-----------30.5hp
Sportsman 700---30.2hp
grizzly 660-----29.8hp
vinson 500------21.8hp
acrtic cat 500i-14.2hp
honda rubicon---N\A

I think these are pretty impressive #'s for a utility quad, with the Tranny's they use and the heavy duty drive trains that these motors have to turn.Pretty Impressive indeed, Later my utility Brothers.
