What is the 330cc kit
#2
Normally you get piston, piston pin, piston pin c-clips, sleeve, headgasket and instructions.
This is the norm of most kits I have bought. The kit for the lakota had no instructions or head gasket. I had requested the instructions and head gasket, but due to the only few kits made for the lakota, no instructions or head gaskets were made, so I didn't push the issue due to I build alot of these kits and pretty much know how to do it.
I think the kit cost about $275 from FST, but give your self another $200 for head work, top end gasket kit, and consumables.

What kit are you talking about the 330 kit for the Mojave or the 322 kit for the Lakota? For the mojave you will have to bore the cylinder and water jackets, and you do get full instructions for the kit, at least thats what Mickey Dunlap said. If you don't know how to do all the boring try to find a good machine shop around town and see if they will do it for you. You can get more info if you go to Four Stroke Tech and E-mail Mickey or call him. HE has also told me it is a good idea to get a port & flow and to modify the black box.
Hope that helped

hossman,
Didn't mean to strike a nerve, and probably should not have mention instructions and that seemed to get you going. I also didn't mean to suggest mickeys shop, as thier is others who make such kits, well maybe not any more. I think powroll was the last other shop doing them and if I remember correctly powroll stopped making them.
Don't think I'm bashing mickey, I do alot of work and he treats me unbelievably good.
Now you all want to talk what you need and won't need for 330 or 322 or what ever you want to call them.
It's a good idea to port and polish the head and install heavier valve springs in the mojave. I say this because what ever the future mods are you won't have to take the motor down. You can just go with the 330 kit if you would like, that isn't a problem either.
The major deal with getting mickeys kits is to order and pay for them before you need them. Beyound popular belief you will find that mickey actually makes his own pistons out of other pistons, so he needs commitments before he makes them. He also has certain times that he cuts all types of pistons. His product is top quality, but you have to understand, if he did not sit down and make a bunch of these kits up over the winter he needs to make them for you.
The problems with using the local machinest is the sleeves have a lip and the lip is not a direct fit like most kits you will get, the lip needs to be recut. This all seems easy and it realy is, but soon as they see a motorcycle head they start to scringe. If mickey is backed up rite now to do your boring and sleeving, go to www.wesleeve.com, this is eckhoffs custom machining, he is the best in the bizz. He has a price list on there but I've never figured it out, because when you call him, he just shoots out a number. He does boring for me @$42 a pop, and that price includes return shipping. He has done re-sleeving and boring of the new sleeve for $115 for me, and this price also included return shipping. Eckhoffs also does the work and sends it back within 24 hours of recieving your parts. You can check around for all the machinest in the contry and you won't find better work even at a graet value like it is.
As far as black box mods, you'll have to get with mickey and see how bizzy he is, I have one that a guy tried to immatate the mod, well it's junk now, so then he tried to run without a black box, well now the mo is junk now. A KLX-250 CDI box works graet, contact some salvage yards and get one from them.
Port and flow is up to you guys, I heavily suggest it, but you don't have to have it. I will say it complomints the kit well.
Also get a set of heavier clutch springs, every one sells them for all kinds of prices, I find the barnett springs are very good and are the cheapest.
Any thing else I can try and answer for you let me know, I'm not a know it all but do do a lot of big bore kits in my spare time.
One other note, try to remember that the racing season has just started and most engine builders are 3 to 6 months behind rite now, mickey I'm not sure of his email was down for a while and I'm sure when it came back up he was flooded with emails.

Your looking in the wrong direction, didn't mean for it too look like I was mad, you didn't strike a nerve at all. I was just wanting to know if he wanted a 330 for a Mojave because he owns a mojave. I saw your post about the Lakota and that got me mixed up. Also I was saying that Mickey told me that instructions came with the 330 kit for the Mojave I'm not sure about the Lakota. Hope everything is clear there was no reason for me to get mad, I like reading your post because I too own a Lakota and a Mojave.

I knew you had both hossman, just thought I caught you in a bad mood or something.
Instructions do come with all kits, but unfortunately the mojave and exspecialy the lakota has been loosing interest to engine builders because of simple economics. I'm sure mickey will give you every thing he possibly can, he's just that way!!
I do my own R&D work on the mojave and you all know I post everything about the lakota. But I just try to let poeple know up front slapping a big bore kit in anything changes everything, thats the only point I try to make. With the ages and possible skill level of some of the riders on here, some times I get a little to simple and basic, then some one just slams me for getting that way. Just not all of us can afford to employe curtis sparks to hang in our garages and be at are beck and call if you know what I mean.
The porting and polishing will take from the bottom end, but what it does is move the power further up the RPM range. What usualy is the set up here bluekawirider is to combat, if you will, a cam and port/polish or just port/polish with a higher compression piston. You don't nessesarialy have to get a big bore kit, you could get just the higher compression piston, that would be a way to get you there.
I personally go with bigger bores with high compression because I can tune them better and get a better reliability out of it. Now this is just me and how I do the set ups but thier is so many different ways that you could talk with 5 different poeple and get 5 different answers.
What I wanted out of the port/polish job was to be able to rev about 500 RPM's further than the lakota already does. A two valve ruff head like the lakota has gives it no room to get that tractor like rev to stretch it's legs a little.
Now the mojave with a short stroke and four valve head is exactly the oposite as the lakota, it works it's best high up in the rev.
So what you want to do is ride the quads and sit down and write down what it is that you want the quad to do more than it is doing now. Then you can sit down and decide what to do and in what order so you just don't waiste good money on things that will not do what you wanted it to do.
Boy I hope I just made a smiggin of sense thier.

so what size piston do you prefure? and that will help give me my low end back! i am looking for more acceleration some low and mid range power please, thanxs! i don't want to sound dumb but what the **** is a cam? and if i do port and polish and bigger piston will a diff cam help more? this will all add up to about 4-5 hp right?
