I think they work really well in mud and hardpack, they hook up great and provide good traction in almost anything. They also slide pretty good and work well for hill climbing. The reason I went with 22" was ground clearence. But if I had to do it again I would probably get 20". It all depends if you need to worry about ground clearence. If thats not an issue they go with 20".
