650 Rider-Types
#1
In my mind there are 4 types of riders. Experienced or aggressive; Moderately experienced or weekend warriors; Inexperienced; and Inexperienced who think or want to be like the aggressive riders.
I am an inexperiened ATV rider. Oh sure I did some badland hill-climbing on a Honda 300 a few times. My new 650 is my first ATV and the last two days have been a WILD ride of exploration and adventure as I just completed my break-in period.
Before I took deliver I was contemplating better mud tires, new wheels, maybe a lift, etc. For those of you who ARE NOT experienced remember this: The Prairie 650 is powerful. I tried hard to get mine stuck in deep snow and in mud over the tires. I really wanted to try out my winch. I am certain that 300 and 400cc machines may not have gotten through what I went through with my 650. But even with stock tires the V-Twin power never let me down. I could not believe it. I believe that the stock tires are not as bad as many of you claim. Now I may dead wrong as I have never tried a mud tire. But for you guys who have a 650 for some weekend fun the stockers are fine until they wear out and you can get some more durable ones. Or if you are dead-set on serious mudding then get the mud tires. I did learn that deep mud is fun and when finances allow, I will pick up some new wheels. But its not as necessary as I thought it would be.
Just enjoy the power of you machine and be careful. I managed to have two scary episodes the past days but you can read about it in NYROC's recent post regarding "toes".

Hey DUstanko,I think I will proclaim myself a weekend warrior in your classifications.I will save the "experienced" class for the guys that race.
That said, I'll agree with you on the stock tires, they work allright, they hold air, they go round and round and do most of the things we expect from a tire.
There were 2 main reasons for me to upgrade my tires.Ihad the dunlops on my last machine from stock.I flattened 3 out of 4 in the first 300 km.(I ride in some pretty rocky terrain from time to time)
So there was reason #1, I was pretty confident that I would flatten those stockers pretty quick. Also, if your gonna replace 'em anyway, why not go a little bigger and more aggressive?
2nd reason (more like a pleasant bonus to upgrading)The 650 looks alot meaner with some decent tires on it.
Not that its me, but I think alot of people go with agressive tires more for looks than anything.
Thats just my 2 cents, and its overpriced anyway.I say just do what makes you happy.
