I believe there were two different tecate-3 engines. 84/85 and the higher powered '86. I have 6 or 7 84-84 engines if you ever need parts. Just like a 250R, the later ATC engines are the same as '86 atv engines. The downfall of tecate's in my opinion is the electrofusion sleeve, blow or melt a piston and it costs $$$$ to fix the sleeve.
Just my thoughts.

I remember when the Tecate 4s came out. The big surprise was that it was NOT based on the Tecate 3 motor, rather on the 87 KX250 motocrosser motor w/special modifications for ATV use like a counterbalancer (which I believe the Trike does not have)and some porting changes...other than that I really can't comment much on the 3 wheeler motor but it is different...totally.
