My local dealer doesn't stock the fluid that the Kawasaki service manual suggests for the rear final gear case of the Prairie 650 (Mobilfluid 424), and at $8 per quart, I probably wouldn't buy it there anyway. After some looking, I found something comparable at my local auto parts store (similar to a Napa), Castrol UTF Universal Tractor Fluid, for $8 a gallon. The viscosity specs (http://www.castrolhdl.com/Common/PDS/2016.pdf) are almost identical to those of the Mobil stuff (http://www.mobil.com/mobil_productda.../fluid424.html). I don't know about their additive package, but I'm sure it's more than acceptable. And I can buy it locally, which is a huge plus.
A previous post listed www.grainger.com as a source for the Mobilfluid 424. They only sell to dealers, so you might have to tell your dealer to order it for you from there. It's $29.35 for a 2.5 gallon container. I didn't check the shipping.

I know this is a pretty old thread but I have the same question. My unit is an '05 P360 4x4. The manual calls for:
MOBIL FLUID 424 CITGO TRANSGARD TRACTOR HYDRAULIC FLUID
or
Exxon Hydraul 560.
Where am I going to find this stuff. . .At the gas station that sells gas for automobiles which don't use this stuff. . .yeah right. . .
My question is: why only these two brands????? Isn't there a comparable oil I can buy at AutoZone or Walmart or even at John Deere???
Thanks.

I cant know about the cross reference to other oils. I bought a 5 gal bucket of Mobil 424 for $30 back in my home town of Grundy VA. This is coal mining country.

Probably a specialty store that sold oil, grease and solvents. I believe mine came from a local store called Williamson oil.

when hunting for oil for the rear axle wet brake system find a farm parts dealer in your area as the hydralic oil for most tractors is equivalent. they use wet brakes too.i can buy oil in sask canada for around 2.00 q quart
