my wife wants to cut something manly off my body now.warrenty did not cover the clutches or belt, kawi says they are wear item. the dealer says it wasa very dirty inside the cover and wore grooves in both clutches.its never been wet in there.i then asked if dust is bad,why dont they make a filter to stop dust from coming in.they also told me i should have the clutches cleaned every so often.my only problem is i heard of someone else having this problem awhile ago,and had them check the belt around 2 monthes ago.they said it was fine. when they get all done just over 1000 dollars including tax,for 5 parts and labor.ouch i have to stay out of my wifes reach for a while now..

My buddy owns a kawasaki dealer and he said the 400 prairie had the exact same problem and figured the 650 would be no better if not worse. They use cheap material for the clutch and just the belt moving up and down with cause grooves. He always fights with kawa...for his customers to pay for the repairs and they always refuse ,they consider this to normal wear !

Sorry to hear about your clutch fiasco. You stated that the both clutches has grooves in them. Are you talking about the clutch faces? I can't believe that the belt would wear grooves in the faces. I've messed around with snowmobile clutches for over 20 yrs.(same setup as on the P650) and I've never seen a belt groove the clutch faces. Did they show you the damaged clutches? How deep were the grooves? You really got my interest on this one. Any details would be most appreciated.

Yeah zrider hard to figure. My Snowmobile experience had Comet clutches on Kawasaki motors, John Deere you may of guessed, and they were easy to work on and didn't have the groove problem. Maybe it is time for aftermarket hardware. Are there still Comet clutches?

you can flat file any damage out to a point but you have have it on lathe is the groove down low where the primary bite it first

bigdoney, from what I hear, Erlandson Performance Industries has a driven clutch for the 650. I don't know if they have a drive clutch or not. They also have different springs that you can replace on your drive clutch to make it engage at a higher rpm. Almost $800 sounds like a lot of money to replace something that shouldn't wear out. Kawie needs to get their head out of their a$$ on this one.

Man that sucks. Another reason I hate the fact that my Grizzly is powered by a rubber band. I wake up from that nightmare constantly. Why don't these idiots make these big 4x4's with a manual transmission model also? Could you imagine winding out the gears on a V-twin? Especially if it had a good 6th gear that would wind out around 80.
